Mobile phones are becoming more and more sophisticated and complex. They are no longer inferior to PDAs in functionality. Malware for smartphones is now evolving, and seems likely to become a growing threat as smartphones gain popularity. There are currently around 40 viruses, worms, and Trojans that have been detected on smartphones in many European countries and the USA.

In June 2004, Kaspersky Lab was the first antivirus vendor to detect and remove malware on Symbian and Windows CE mobile platforms. Today the company continues to be at the forefront in mobile user protection from malicious code. Kaspersky Anti-Virus Mobile uses fewer system resources compared to other solutions available on the market. This leads to quicker processing of commands and allows users to install more applications.

Symbian OS phones enjoy around 80% of the smartphone market, and have not escaped attacks from cyber criminals. This new trial version is designed to protect smartphones running the Symbian operating system (Symbian OS 6.1, 7.0 and 8.0/Series 60 UI or Symbian Series UIQ) against malicious code.

A wide range of customizable options are available for vendors, mobile operators, content providers and other companies which may be interested in offering industry-leading security services to smartphone users.

Available features

On-demand scanner
Using the default settings, the solution scans the smartphone file system and memory for malicious code. Scan results are logged.

On-access scanner
Checks objects in real-time for malicious code. All incoming objects are scanned, including objects in multimedia messages.

Anti-Virus database update module
Updates can be performed manually or according to a schedule defined by using the task scheduler.

The following parameters can be set:

Update delivery method (WAP, Internet-GPRS, or local folder).
The URL where antivirus database updates are placed.

Task scheduler
Used to schedule memory scans and antivirus database downloads. Tasks can be configured to run weekly or daily. A task can also be configured to run at a specific time.

Anti-Spam module
There is an option to create your own black list to keep your inbox free of spam. Your contact numbers are added to the white list automatically ensuring that you will never lose a legitimate message.

Additional features
Scans the smartphone memory either on-demand or according to a schedule defined by using the task scheduler. The phone's memory can also be scanned upon completion of an antivirus database update.
